Do I have to be an “Early Career Researcher” to sign up?
No, you do not have to be an ECR to sign up and attend these seminars. They are open to all members of the Paleo community, and folks in non-ECR positions are highly encouraged to attend!
What do you mean by “Early Career Researcher”?
Early Career Researcher is a term that encompasses a broad swath of career stages, and we deliberately are not defining what positions people must be in, nor a number of “years post-PhD” as criteria for determining “ECR Status”. While the majority of speakers will be in late-stage graduate school or a non-faculty post-PhD position, this does not preclude the occasional talk by Assistant Professors, undergraduate/early-stage graduate students, or others working outside the traditional academic career path.
I would like to participate, but I’m not available/asleep during the seminar time!
We understand that not everyone is in the same time zone, nor does everyone have the same available working hours! With permission from the speaker, the seminar and Q&A session will be uploaded as an unlisted video to Youtube for a determined interval of time (usually 1 week unless the speaker wishes for the video to be publicly available indefinitely) so that participants who cannot attend in real-time can still view the talks and participate in any post-talk online discussions.
We recognize that the seminar time is North America / Europe centric, to accommodate the schedules of the steering committee. However, as the series becomes more established, there may be seminars which happen outside of the official Tuesday seminar time to better accommodate speaker availability and time zone.
How often will I get emails?
PaleoPERCS will email 2-3 times per week with seminar logistics.
I’ve made a self-nomination as a speaker, when will I hear back from you?
Thank you for contributing to our nomination pool! We are committed to creating a diverse seminar series, both demographically and across sub-disciplines of paleo-sciences. As such, a nomination does not guarantee an invitation. If you don’t hear from us, it’s not because you and your research aren’t amazing! Please rest assured that all nominations are being considered, and play a part in helping to develop a balanced, diverse, and topical seminar series. You might not hear from us right away, but that doesn’t mean you won’t hear from us weeks, or even months down the line.
I’ve got a question that isn’t answered here!
Great – please email us at paleopercs [at] gmail [dot] com and we’ll get back to you. If it’s a broadly applicable question, you may see it and the answer appear here on the FAQ page as well.
